Poetry Prompts - Tapping into Your Creative Mind

It seems there has been a miscommunication somewhere and I've just discovered that there isn't a poetry prompt for all of you poets to play with today. No worries, I'm here to the rescue.

I am not a smoker, though I was in my younger years. I am not endorsing or encouraging smoking of any kind. When I wrote the list of prompts, this one popped up and it seemed like it could trigger memories of someone from your past that smoked or smokes and the story happening around that person and yourself. So here goes.

Prompts:

Write for ten minutes around, tapping the ash of her cigarette, what memory or story pops into your mind? Allow yourself to get creative, it doesn't have to be from or about someone you know.

Word Prompts:

mystery
intrique
smoke
ashes

Possible poetry type: Time to play with your words forward and backwards, let's try a palindrome.

Alternative Prompt:

Pull a book off of your shelf and randomly open it up to any page. The first word or sentence you land one, write from there.

Remember, our prompts are only suggestions, you can find your inspiration wherever your muse leads you. Please visit the other participants, share the hashtag, #OctPoWriMo, on social media, and share your link in the comments below. Let us know how this journey into poetry is going for you.

  5. Before I post my day 9 poem I want to say the irony of today's prompt! SF is cloaked in smoke and ash rains down on the city streets, from wildfires raging through vineyard and forrest as old as stone. Hmmmm. I just may have to use that.....

Not where I thought this was going to go either. Perhaps it is because of the tinge of smoke in the air...

  17. Today's offering satisfies both the OctPoWriMo *and* the The Daily Post Prompt for today: Believe. Wasn't sure how to start until I started looking at the word and taking it apart. Believe starts with belie and then sort of just drops off. http://tao-talk.com/2017/10/09/day-9-octwripomo-believe-also-the-daily-post-prompt-believe/

  24. Posting on behalf of Sudha Reddy:

    One Truth and Two choices

    Two facts of A Truth.....

    Ashes we come from
    From nothingness we come
    Ashes we go into
    To nothingness we go

Life is the space in between the two facts of a truth and two choices.
Tapping into the creator’s space is not a mystery or an intriguing question.
It is that, what created human history, is a simple choice selection

    Two choices.....

To create a fire of hatred and spread the smoke and fumes into the darkness
    Or
To ignite the lamp of love and spread the light of love into the distance

    Ashes we come from
    From nothingness we come
    Ashes we go into
    To nothingness we go
Life is the space in between the one truth and two choices

  28. Day 9: #OctPoWriMo
Prompt: Tapping into your creative mind

The prompt today is unusual as well as creates opportunity for delving into mystery which I relate with smoke, mist, fog.
