Day 5 - Denied

According to Merriam-Webster, “denied” has several meanings:

  1. Declared untrue
  2. Refused to admit or acknowledge
  3. Gave a negative answer to, refused to grant, restrained from gratification of desires
  4. Refused to accept the existence, truth, or validity of

What does “denied” mean to you?
What does it feel like to be denied something that you want/need?
What does it sound like to hear that “NO”?
What does it look like when you are denied your desire?
What does it smell like to be denied?
What does it taste like?

THE PROMPT:

Bring all of your senses with you and explore being denied in a 10-15 minute free write.

Write a poem using sensory words to express being denied or being in denial.

WORD PROMPTS:

Denied
Refuted
Rejected
Spurned
Vetoed

Remember that our prompts are only suggestions - go wherever the muse takes you.
In the meantime, read other participants' poems, share the #OctPoWriMo hashtag on social media, and add a link to your own poem in the comments below.

  10. Weeeeeelllllll....
My offering took all the rules, beat the living crap out of them with a baseball bat, and left them for dead in an alley. It's raw, it's rude, and it's far more prose than poetry, although I think prose is too pretty a word for it. Harsh subject matter and a lot of profanity, definitely not for those with more delicate sensibilities. Proceed at your own peril.

  33. Denied...

    It hurt deep
    Like no tomorrow
    It is pitch dark
    Like no way out
    It felt heavy
    Like hundred tons
    Hurdles all around
    Hurricane in the heart
    Hacking Human comprehension
    Like no way out

    Time is every thing
When it is not your time
    Duck in for a while
    Let the time pass by
    Circumstances can be changed
In the end truth will triumph
To save the decency of humanity

At times a lot is lost
    But see what is left
    To live with conviction
    you rise again and again..

    Till the time is right
    And circumstances changed

    Denial is relative to life
But sometimes, it could be the END
But only if you let it ..
    Denial is not for ever
    hang in there with persistence
    resilient to change the circumstances
Denial is for ever only if we give up easy
A tough fight with conviction and courage is worth loosing... sr
