It is easy to join us and play along. Come to our daily prompts to read what the challenge is for that day (though you can find your inspiration anywhere), write poetry during October, and then come back to share it with us in the comments of the daily challenge/prompts on OctPoWriMo and share on Twitter with the hashtag #OctPoWriMo. You can also share it on Facebook in the Poets on the Page Group. You can grab the badge on this page or go to Poetry Badges to choose another and link it back to here to let others know about the challenge.
If you need inspiration you can check out our Daily Poetry Prompts that we will share on the OctPoWriMo blog but you can write from your own inspiration as well. Visit at least a few of your Poetry neighbors. Make sure you tweet with the hashtag #OctPoWriMo to let everyone know when you have a new poem posted!
It is that simple. We begin OctPoWriMo poetry prompts on October 1st and everyday leading to and including October 31st. We look forward to reading and sharing poetry with you!
Since we began this challenge in 2012, many poets/writers have participated in this challenge both on and offline. The one thing that really sticks out for me, besides all of the sharing and interaction between the poets, is how much the poets/writers stretch their writing during this challenge, how deep they take it, how much it pushes them to take their words that much further. I also love how every single person is accepted, inspired, and encouraged no matter where they are in their poetry journey, whether they are brand new or have been writing for years. I look forward to exploring poetry with you!
If you would like to share your past experiences with OctPoWriMo as a guest post or included as a quote in one of our posts during September, email Morgan Dragonwillow at awritersuniverse @ gmail . com (make sure you take out the spaces) with OctPoWriMo in the subject line.
Hi, Thank you for the Invite,
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy my many pieces of controversial poetry :)

Glad to have you along for this writing poetry journey!
ReplyDeleteI just want to thank you tons and tons and tons for running this challenge. It has kept me blogging and at least one or two of my poems are keepers. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
So glad you enjoyed it and that it helped you with your poetry. Hope to see you next October! Have a great year!
DeleteI'm going to try this challenge out for the first time. I'm still trying to get past Writer's Block, so I hope that I'll be able to keep up. I look forward to starting this.
ReplyDeleteI just sent in a request to join your Facebook Group. I'll look forward to posting what I come up with on that page. :-)
Hopefully our prompts will help you with your writer's block although often writer's block is from fear and writing through the fear is the best way to break out of it. I hope you allow your words to flow onto the page.
DeleteHi I’m a bit confused… please help me to understand. Last year I was posting a poem a day with the tag NaPoWriMo and that was all and it was great… The same is not sufficient this time? May have a problem posting the badges (I like them a lot!) just cause each of my poems always comes with a photo (I’m a photographer too) that’s the trademark of my blog… I’m afraid it will look messy with two images and a poem sandwiched in between. Please let me know, thank you...
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, NaPoWriMo is for April the National Poetry Month. OctPoWriMo is for a month of poetry in October. You don't have to post a badge if you don't want to but it would be nice if you posted a link leading back to our posts if you are participating in our month long challenge. The badges are just for those that would like to post them. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThanks for replying and explaining... sure, no problem posting a link!!! I would post a badge too if I didn't have had the picture poem format up for two years... With "link" you mean a string or a tag? I know how to TAG not sure about links, unless i do copy and paste at the bottom of the poem?? Can't wait to start, April was fun... Bye Morgan!
ReplyDeleteJust posted and tweeted my first poem for the month...exciting!
ReplyDeleteHi, is there a central page where everyone can link up? I don't know where to find other participants and I would like to link up so folks can see my page too.
ReplyDeleteWe do our link ups on our daily prompts, that way every time you write a new poem you can link up that day. Of course if you fall behind all the links stay open until November 7th for those that want to catch up. That way you can link your poem to the specific prompt that you wrote it for. Let me know if you have any questions.
DeleteP.S. The prompt for today you can find here... http://www.octpowrimo.com/2013/10/octpowrimoday7.html

ReplyDeleteHi, this is wonderful. I am so far behind though. I will put it on the radar for next year and maybe try to pick a day or two to submit a poem. ;)
ReplyDeleteI was in this last year and had a lot of fun. I fell short of the 31 days as my goal of a specific type of poem on a specific topic each day left me short. I would like to do this again this year but just keep it easy. I love sports and just write a poem, any kind on any sport - just whatever the mood say. So, do I need to do anything special? I see this is the site for the last two years. Just let me know. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi Lance, nice to see you again! If you don't want to miss anything you can sign up to receive our posts in your email and that way you will see every post filled with all things poetry during September and then the prompts in October. In October you will be able to link up your poems daily on each post. I look forward to seeing what you come up with this year!
DeleteI am looking forward to the October Poetry challenge - I did have a question however. Is it obligatory to use the daily prompt? (I know we are to post links to our daily poem on the prompt page each day).
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hi Jenni, the prompts are voluntary. You can link up your poetry no matter where you get your inspiration from. We only provide the prompts for those that need a little help with inspiration, and of course we love writing them. :D
DeleteI'm in. I may need help with linking between my blog. But I'm pretty excited about taking the challenge. Thanks in advance for the tech support. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was here last year and here I am again ... it was a great experience and am raring to go! Happy writing!
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan - thank you for having invited me to join in - quite early on. But I was wondering, do we have to submit a poem a day? Or as and when we write it, is fine? Its just that with my work commitments, I find it difficult to write everyday - would be grateful if you could let me know. Thank you for the invite and sharing your wonderful blog!
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed this, no Anjali, you don't have to write everyday. You are free to write when you feel inspired and link up so others can read it. Thanks for joining us!
DeleteWill this challenge be taking place in 2015?
ReplyDeleteYes, we begin with poetry tips in September and OctPoWriMo begins October 1st.
DeleteHi Morgan,
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if I have to sign up, or just link as I go along. Please advise. Thanks.
Hi Jazzy, All you have to do is link up on the daily prompts. Look forward to reading your poems. =)
DeleteHi! So happy to be a part of this. Do I post links here of m y contributions?
ReplyDeleteThis looks like something to spur me on in my poetry writing. So is this what I do?:
ReplyDeleteWrite a poem on my blog. Then link my blog (which I have to figure out) to the daily prompt? I hope I can figure this out.
