Day 10 - Power and Control

Photo by Judy McDole, © 2005

Power is a five-letter word that often gets a bad rap. That’s because people usually think of it in only one way: power = oppression, or “power over.”

American psychiatrist William Glasser, in Choice Theory, teaches there are two other ways to express power:  “power with” and “power within.”  The word that nestles right up to “power” is “control”. They go hand-in-hand.

Try out mind mapping, making a graphic, non-linear representation, to expand your ideas for your poem about power and control.

Mind mapping is a powerful tool for unleashing and developing creativity and also for note taking. Read more about mind mapping in Melanie Pinola’s definitive post at Lifehaker.

I had a lot of fun with this one. It took me from "power" to pronouns and gender issues.

    1. The entire poem is powerful and the final line really packs a punch.
I couldn't find a place to comment on the poem at the site. However, I'm working from my Chromebook and sometimes it can be glitchy.

  13. Sharing for Sudha Reddy -

If a child within us , is instilled with a value , stating that, ‘ you are not superior or inferior, but you are unique and special ‘.
Then , may be ,we will stop looking for similarities in each other, as a reason to connect.
Rather , we will learn , to connect with everyone .No matter who they are, and connect at a soul level.
Then there is no power struggle or control issues.

    MORAL COMPASS
    Power over , with control......
Guided by the outward consequences, as a moral compass
Power and control for the outside position
Craving with unquenchable thirst for a trip of tyranny.
Self serving and feeling supremacy as vices
Loneliness, restlessness and fear for loss of control famine
Eventually perish into the pseudo control...famished life
On the way ...Make many lives diminished to nothing.

    Power in peace...
Guided by the conscience within , as a moral compass
Humility and service as the values
Graced with contentment and peace abundant
With peace within, more peace follows
Empowered , one has to feel , in control of the self
Enriched with peace and joy in life
On the way ...Make many lives flourish with joy.

Power is a irreplaceable intricacy of human evolution
As long as we relate to each other outwardly
Power and control remain intimately woven with human evolution....😊💕🙏

    Prompt: Power and Control

I would like to emphasize on "empower" today through an old composition of mine which talks about the power of education. This is inspired from a real life person who is very close to my heart and I respect her loads for the beautiful work that she does. She spreads not only knowledge but also love and her warmth is certainly infectious. Kudos to her efforts!
