Day 17: And the Dragon Chose...

We can't forget the magic of writing or the magic within writing. We don't always have to write about our lives in poetry form. We can write magical stories.

This is a Dr. Seuss challenge. His book "Green Eggs and Ham" was written on a dare - could he write a story using only 50 words? Bennett Cerf, the co-founder of Random House, offered him $50 if he could do it. Read about the dare HERE.

The Prompt

Here's my challenge to you: Choose 50 words. Write a poem using only those words, repeating and rhyming as you see fit. You can use the words as many times as you like, but limit yourself to just the 50 words.

If you're unfamiliar with the story (or just want to enjoy the story again), here's an animated version for your enjoyment -

And the dragon chose

  3. Day 17: #OctPoWriMo

Well, tried to weave a story that I had written sometime back into a poem , but I am sure that I must have crossed the limit of 50 words!

The story is about a mysterious phone call that magically saves the life of my protagonist's aunt.
    So, here it is :

  18. Seventeenth Day of #OctPoWriMo 2017 called for using 50 words. The prompt also mentioned a dragon. But they are not really my thing. Here goes: www.poemsbyannis.blogspot.com

  19. Posting for Sudha Reddy: Day 17

On a lighter note the prompt is making me try something new...

The myth is from Vietnam, about a dragon in the Pacific Ocean.
There is a small town by the river and the bridge over it is ancient. The locals ,believe that the ocean dragon’s body is pinned down here, and it’s head is in China and tail in Japan. The belief is that , the movement of the dragon causes the tremors leading to hurricanes and tsunami . But Vietnam is spared from the natural calamities because the dragon is stabilized by being pinned down at the temple on this bridge.

On a new moon day ,the town is lit by the lamps only, there are no electric lights. On that day their ancestors are celebrated. The whole town is by the river. They drop the lit candles into the flowing river. It is a spectacular view to watch ,candle lit lamps floating away in the river against a pitch black back ground.

Is it a Dragon ....A Dragon it is

Is it a myth on dragon
Or a dragon a myth it is
A dragon deep in the ocean
    Head into China
    Tail in Japan
Body pinned in Vietnam it is
Is it a fiction or a fairy tale
A fantasy or lunacy it is

Is it a myth on dragon
Or a dragon a myth it is
    When the dragon moves
    That Tremors China
    Tremors in Japan
    Stillness in Vietnam it is
Is it a fiction or a fairy tale
A fantasy or lunacy it is

It is a myth on dragon
Or dragon a myth it is
    Dragon slept for most part
    Fire spewing in China
    Tail spiked in Japan
    Stillness in Vietnam it is
Is it a fiction or a fairy tale
A fantasy or lunacy it is

Is it a myth on dragon
Or a dragon a myth it is
    Dragon ,a chosen zodiac sign
    Season is spring
    Elements are earthy
    Energy is yang
Is it a fiction or a fairy tale
A fantasy or lunacy it is...
