OctPoWriMo 2020 Begins!

Poets from all over the world have been participating in OctPoWriMo since 2012, from new poets to well seasoned poets. I created OctPoWriMo so that anyone who wanted to explore poetry would feel comfortable in doing so here. We believe there are no rules to poetry, only playing with your words until you breathe life into them.

This past year has been more chaotic than any of us ever expected 2020 would be. I know I had many plans I had to put on hold as I'm sure many of you had to as well. Hopefully, OctPoWriMo can help relieve the chaos and maybe even help us work through some of it.

Poetry Prompts:

Shine your light is the main prompt for today, in fact it is the theme for this OctPoWriMo. Some have taken this time during the Pandemic to explore their talents and share them with others. How can you shine your light? Write for ten minutes exploring what shining your light means to you.

Word Prompts:
Light
Shining
Bright
Sharing
Talent

This is the ninth year of OctPoWriMo and this year I wanted to do something a little different. Normally I share one poetry form or type for those who wish to challenge themselves or to just try something new with their poetry. Previously I tried to keep them simple. This year I am going to offer two, one challenging and one less challenging.

Poetry Type:

or

Those who know me, know I love dance and movement to stir the muse and the words. Here is some music to dance your words onto the page.

Remember, our prompts are only suggestions, you can find your inspiration wherever your muse leads you. Please visit the other participants, share the hashtag, #OctPoWriMo on social media, and share your link in the comments below. Let us know how this journey into poetry is going for you and if this is your first year or if you have been with us from the beginning.

  1. I started early and so mine is not acrostic or kyrielle but just shining your light.

    1. Your acrostic flows so easily and allows the reader to get lost in your uplifting message. Lovely!

  27. This year is the first I've heard of OctPoWriMo. I am NOT a poet; not by any stretch of the imagination. But stretching the ol' creativity is a good thing, even if the result sucks, right?
