OctPoWriMo Day 2

As I move into the second half of my life I find it more and more difficult to mix and mingle, to put myself out there. I'd rather stay to myself and spend my time reading, writing, and art journaling. Or I spend my days with animals, walking dogs and pet sitting. Now I even enjoy camping solo. So being here, mixing with other poets, has me feeling vulnerable.

  2. The link is what I wrote originally, before I saw the poem options. I've never heard of a Lannet, so below is my attempt at rewriting as a Lannet. https://scribblesfrommetoyou.wordpress.com/2020/10/02/octpowrimo2020-02-vulnerability/

Her eyes are staring, huge black orbs, glowing
In a dim light, she absorbs all that is.
A black hole staring, growing, heavier.
Claws gently flex, awaiting the bare foot
    That tempting sight is inevitable
    Dangling, bare and utterly appealing
It's too much, this excitement, to contain
Tail swishing slows as stillness achieved
    Unforgivable really, not to yield
To succumb, as movement hones watching eyes
    Utter silence now, still contemplation
The calm before storms, the eye of the wind
    Her density increases, mass growing
    As she launches unsuspected attack!!

    1. Very nice. Such a difficult form. I find 10 syllables makes a challenging meter, but you captured it!

    1. This was interesting, going through the image or reality of a chronic illness or physical disability to then breach further in to the emotional / spiritual / mental core of it is nothing short of a stroke of genius on a regular day; on this one, however, I also see, beneath the veneer of poetry, both weakness and strength intermingling. As if to remind, nobody can be strong all the time.

      Wonderful and poignant.

    3. Sorry about the deletion, but I'd made a typo and just couldn't stand it. But, this stanza struck me:
      Carrying
      this, a dust
      receptacle
      for the world’s idea
      of what strength
      looks like, what
      ableness and
      accomplishment
      amount to

Love it. Thank you. xoA <3

  18. I'm the same way. I live in a town of 154 people and I rarely interact with anybody. When I was younger, that would have sounded awful. These days, I prefer it.

  22. Vulnerability is hard to fit in 10 syllables a line. Expose/open seemed easier.
