OctPoWriMo Day 7

“The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4 NIV
Can you believe it has already been a week?! I hope you’re having as much fun on this year’s poetry journey as I am. I love being challenged by the prompts, and I especially look forward to reading how others interpret them differently than I do.
Today’s Prompt: Tongue, Tasting and Speaking
When I think of the tongue, so many things come to mind. Speaking, tasting, kissing, singing, getting it stuck to cold metal outside in the winter… Just me?
Have you ever gone outside when it’s snowing and let the flakes fall onto your tongue? Have you ever gotten shampoo in your mouth while washing your hair? Have you ever tasted the ocean? Or rain?
What does your favourite food taste like? What is the grossest thing you’ve ever tasted?
Sticks and stones may break my bones, But words can break my heart.
I wrote that when I was just a kid. I already knew that words can hurt. But words can heal too. When was a time when someone said something to you, or you said something to someone, that broke a heart? When was a time when you found the right words at the right moment to heal someone’s heart? What words do you always go back to when you need encouragement?
Have you ever been in a situation where you felt that someone needed to speak up against an injustice? Did you speak up? If yes, what did you say? If no, what do you wish you’d said?
Maybe you’d like to write about your first kiss. Or giving a speech. Or something else altogether. It’s up to you. It’s your tongue. Use it.
Word Prompts: Sweet Sour Bitter Broken Healing
Suggested Poetry Type: Tongue Twister

  5. If I wrote about my first kiss, it could be summed up in one word:
    YUCK!
So, instead, I wrote a bit of obsessive hyperbole inspired by a favorite song by The Cars.
    Obsession
