OctPoWriMo Day 15

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” (Matthew 23:37; Luke 13:34)

“A mother’s arms are more comforting than anyone else’s.” – Princess Diana

Today’s Prompt: Mother May I?

Have you ever played the game “Mother May I?” If not, check out the link. It’s not a very complicated game.

I may not be the most obvious choice to write on a prompt about mothers. My mother died seven years ago and I have unexplained infertility so I will likely never have my own children. So, what can I say about mothers?

My mom wasn’t perfect but she loved me. She taught me how to cook and how to bake and how to knit. She taught me that it’s fun to sing along to your favourite songs whether you can carry a tune or not. She taught me that people are mostly good. She taught me to enjoy stupid fun television and movies.

My mother-in-law is wonderful. She loves me and treats me like one of her own children. My nieces and nephews love me and really enjoy when I babysit them. They fight over who gets to sit beside “Aunty Esther.” My cats are sometimes like babies, demanding attention and care.

What kind of relationship did/do you have with your mother? Do you have kids? Do you want to have kids?

Have you ever asked for something you really wanted? Did you get it?

  5. Honestly, the only thing I know of Mother May I is this dumb joke we told as kids.
    Say "Mother May I."
    "Mother May I."
    "Then spell cup."

I did say it was dumb.

This is my bit, with a long story.
