OctPoWriMo Day 11

The house is quiet except for my kitten aggressively playing with her toy and running around, zooming from here to there. I think of the silence, which in our society isn't really very silent. As I'm sitting here, besides my kitten, I can hear the fan above me and the fan of the laptop. I can't hear Him breathing in his room, not even sure he's sleeping, but the silence between us is deafening. My silence is so loud my ears are bursting.

Poetry Prompts:

What is silence for you? Is it ever silent where you live? Is it a comfortable silence or is the silence screaming? Have you been silenced? Answer some of these questions or all of them.

Word Prompts:

Echo
Chaos
Noise
Gag
Muzzle

Suggested Poetry Type: Loop poetry, an invented form from, Shadow Poetry.

Music to move to and to ponder.

  5. I have written a cleave poem though perhaps the rather chopped up staccato of the loop poem would also have suited the theme.

    1. Thank you for sharing this form. I was unfamiliar with it but will add it to my list. I love the two voices you use.

    2. Thank you! It's a form I only rarely tackle as it's tricky to get the two sides telling contrasting stories. It's easy to split a poem in two, but then you tend to get three poems saying the same thing!

  10. Hah. I did silence yesterday, in response to the see and touch prompts. So I'll link it again here, if that's not cheating!

  12. It's relatively early here on the west coast, 27F outside, a lingering snow on the ground, and an unexpected poem woke me up!
