Most of you know that I hate rules but things run a lot better with a few basics.
Basic Rules
- If your poetry isn't appropriate for under 18 or the workplace, please put an * next to your blog title.
- You can write whatever you like from whatever prompts you like. We will be sharing prompts daily but you don't have to write from them. Find inspiration wherever you like.
- If you want other participants to know you've written something new, you can leave your link on our daily prompt post in the comments. Or, share on Twitter with the hashtag #OctPoWriMo
- Please be courteous, we have a range of poets some new and some writing for years, find something positive to say. It takes a lot of courage to write poetry and put it out there for others to read.
- If you aren't writing poetry on your blog by the fifth day of October or doesn't have any new poetry for 5 days in a row, you will be removed from the list.
- By linking up you agree to these rules.

Hey there, it's Dawn D from Dawn's Nights on WP. I would very much like to contribute, like I did last year, but because I had to put my blog private, I am not sure linking here will be very useful, except for those few writers whom I met here 2 or 3 years ago, and who already follow me... What do you suggest I do to still receive the daily prompts (I DID write a poem a day last year, just couldn't post it)?
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn, the only suggesting I have is to create a different blog just for OctPoWriMo and share that link with us. To receive tips and prompts in your email you just have to enter your email up on the right of the page (or on your phone it would be on the bottom of page I think), or go to the bottom of one of the daily posts and see where you can enter your email. You will receive them daily in your email and can write for the prompts in your journal/notebook or post in the comments or, like I said, create another blog just for OctPoWriMo. Hope this helps.

DeleteCreating a new blog is too much work for me at the moment.
Last year, I did sign up for the prompts and published in my journal, but what worries me this year is the "5 consecutive days without posting and you're out".
By posting in the comments, did you mean copy-paste my poem of the day?

Hi Dawn, The 5 days is for those that are on the linky. As long as you are signed up to receive tips and prompts you will always receive tips and prompts.
DeleteYes, you can paste your poem for the day into the comments as long as they are g rated. Or... I just had a thought, I could put you as an author on my, A Writer's Universe, and you can post your poems there. It's up to you. If they aren't g rated I can change my link up to show that. How does that sound?

If you want, I don't mind getting a bit more feedback than from my little group of friends on the blog, so I just may take you up on your offer as contributor. If a poem is g rated, then I won't send it to you, would that work?
It's not problematic, I just wanted to make sure I could take part, as I really enjoy this challenge. And we've got a whole month to get things figured out, so loads of time and little stress for me :)
Hi Dawn, is your gmail still the one connected to Dawn's nights? If it is then I will go ahead and add you as a contributor on A Writer's Universe. Also, you have inspired me to offer in tomorrows post the same to others who may not have a place to blog their poems.

DeleteI'd love to find a person to write with me. I've done the last few #OctoPoWriMo by myself and it's really lonely. Any advice or do you know someone who would be willing to write with me?
ReplyDeleteHi Rose, I totally understand what you are going through. I've been looking for another writing partner for years and finally found an online writing buddy. I'd prefer to have someone to write with in person but meeting with someone online is great too.
DeleteI just kept putting it out there that I was looking for someone to write with. I attend Twitter chats, online writing groups, in person writing groups, etc. I would let people know every where I went, where there were other writers, that I was looking for someone to meet up and write with. Not on the same piece, just together.
If you are on Twitter, use the hashtag, #wordmongering , when people are using that hashtag to write they start at the top of the hour :00 and end at the :30. Using the hashtag you ask if anyone is up for #wordmongering at the :00 and see if anyone responds. If they do you then write after checking in and then check in at the :30 to see how you both did. I often used that when I very first started writing and I'm back to using it with my new writing buddy. Definitely helps with the loneliness.
You can also join us on Thursday nights, 8 pm EST, for #StoryDam Twitter chat. We talk about all things writing. Tamara now has a Twitter chat on Tuesday nights, #WriteStuff at 9 pm EST. I've been visiting that chat as well and I'm meeting a lot of other writers, it's a lot of fun.

No, and I don't want you to take this the wrong way but, if it seems you are advertising more than writing poetry I'll have to remove you from the list. Not everyone writes on a poetry blog, they write poetry on whatever blog they have. It varies.

Hi David, Yes of course, just link up your instagram profile URL and we'll come check out your poetry! Remember to use the hashtag #OctPoWriMo and you can comment on the daily prompts when you post a new poem.
