Desires can be tricky to navigate. They're a bit murky, depending on intentions and what the object of desire is. Sometimes the desire for
something can be a great motivator, keeping you focused and on track. Other
times, the desire can overrule every bit of good sense and propriety bordering running into the dark territory of obsession. It has started wars whether out in a foreign country or between neighboring households.
Have you ever truly lusted for something? Have you coveted a
thing, a person a way of life?
Poetry Prompt:
Here's your challenge (if you chose to accept it): Write about desire in whatever form you chose. It can be a simple desire like wanting a better life for your children, or something with a bit more scandal. Chose any words from the list below.
The words:
desire
lust
wanting
obsession
fascination
possess
love
enraptured
It's Day 12, getting closer to that halfway point. How are you doing so far?

I have an old one that's so perfect for the subject of lust that I shared it straight away. Now my mind is free to wander if I can ever write a poem about lust again (that first one came as a suprise when I was exploring the concept New York School Poem).
ReplyDeleteYour prompt started the train of thought (and I used all your words) but Brenda's Wordle 182 finished me off!
ReplyDeleteso far I've written a couple poems this month that really ring.... to me, anyway - and somehow like magic or practice or study, my poetry is finding a different - improved - thread. The experience is fascinating me! Today I didn't follow the prompt - though I may scoop this one up on a later day. What my fellow OctPoWriMo Poets are writing is quite inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWell, I wrote this one before seeing the prompt but it seems to fit. At least in my mind I was thinking of love from the perspective of letting go, so it could also be obsession or desire. Here is the link > http://markschutter.com/2014/10/12/i-let-go/
